Can you see it? Love is in the Air

There is one day that is anticipated by every couple but dreaded by every person that’s single. It’s a day that heart shaped pillows, bears with corny quotes, and overpriced boxes of chocolate are sold in almost every store. A day that old fashioned love songs ring everywhere you go and everyone is filled with a warming love, also known as Valentine’s Day.

Sugar Overload: It’s popular and almost culture for lovers to buy each other candy and flowers on Valentine’s. South students had the opportunity to buy Singing Telegrams or carnations for that special someone.

Some people choose to spend the day with their lover, maybe exchanging flowers and candy, or enjoying a fancy dinner, or maybe just spending quality time together. Others without anyone to spend the special day with might devote it to binging on sappy Netflix movies and chocolate wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket with the company of me, myself, and I. In the meantime of waiting for that special someone to enter their lives, there’s nothing to do on Valentine’s day but to fantasize about the perfect day with them. Junior Robert “Bobby” Richardson shares his cozy idea of the perfect night. “A special day spent with a special someone. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but in my mind it would be sitting on a nice couch with a girl I care about. We would be watching movies while a fire burns steady and hot in the corner of the room, all while a heavy snowstorm makes the room feel all the more inviting.” Spending the day with a loved one does sound very romantic, and relatively cozy. Other Valentine’s Day celebrators, however, think that the day should be spent not just in the comfort of home, but out on a date. Senior Bria Malwitz describes her perfect day, night, and Netflix series on Love Day. “I would want to wake up to breakfast in bed (preferably pink heart pancakes) and spend the whole day Netflix and chilling to One Tree Hill while wearing my bright pink fuzzy robe. Then I would want to get all dolled up for a romantic dinner at Kiku’s and finish off the night with watching a scary movie at Marcus Cinema all cuddled up in his big buff arms. I’m not sure who it is yet…” Whether you spend this day of love with a loved one, friends, or even by yourself, Valentine’s Day is a very special holiday. It’s a day that’s specifically put aside to show the ones that you love how much you care about them, and to spread the warming feeling to others. And even if you choose not to purchase anything for someone (like a box of chocolates or a singing telegram sang by our own South High Singers), show the ones how much you love them, because that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about.
