November 22nd was opening weekend for Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. Director Francis Lawrence takes a spin off of the book series and creates an emotional and exciting film that has collected $158.1 Million at the box office. The movie begins with Katniss Everdeen, preparing to set off on the Victory Tour with other victor Peeta Mellark. The film then continues displaying the relationship of Katniss and Peeta, and her impact on the underlying revolution.
With Lawrence being the new director for Catching Fire, there were concerns on how different the sequel would be (direction wise) from the first movie. Personally, I felt that Catching Fire was under much better direction than Hunger Games was. I felt like Lawrence understood the correlation between the book and the movie better than Hunger Games director, Gary Ross. The costume design and set was far better in Catching Fire as well.
The movie was very emotional in the aspect that one moment you would be feeling anxious and the next you would be laughing. The quirks and stellar acting Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss, are moving and to be expected from an Oscar winner.
Before you see the movie, you may want to read the books to better understand what’s going on. Because Catching Fire is a sequel, if you haven’t read the books or seen the first movie, I’d highly recommend you do so before going to the theater. If you haven’t already seen Catching Fire, I would strongly suggest you go. You will not be disappointed!!
