South High’s Student Council has been running a food drive for the Salvation Army for almost 25 years.
Jesus M Rivera, student council vice president and food drive co-chair said student council’s goal is “To fill up the pantry at the Salvation Army before Thanksgiving or winter because usually at this time they’re short on food supplies.”
South High has always been big supporters for those who are in need of food, shelter, clothes, and other necessities. South High staff and students have been stacking up more can goods to help reach their goal of 3000 food donations in 10 school days. Each year, student council hopes to gain more food donations.
For example, last year South High as a whole collected about 2200 food items and increasing the the goal by 800 items collected by the staff and students of South High. South High is not just helping Salvation Army by filling up their shelves, but also feed those who are incapable of feeding themselves and their family.
“I think it’s really important to give back to the community and I don’t want anyone to be hungry over the winter. People are already cold with the change in weather, it’d be nice if they weren’t hungry too,” said South High staff Tess Larson. Larson’s Publication class is hoping to win again this year making it a threepeat.
There are five days left in the food drive–Redwings, bring in your food to your seventh hour and help meet the goal of 3000 items helping the Salvation Army provide for Sheboygan County.
