The fall season is now ending for our Redwing athletes. For some it will be there last, while for others, it is only the start. While some students will be kicking back trying to stay warm during the cold winter season, others will be preparing and working hard for the seasons to come.
For Senior Matthew Rogers, his season is just beginning. He will be participating in wrestling for his fourth and last year. During which he will be working out and keeping in shape until the winter sport commences. Rogers will be lifting weights, running, and attending open mats to make sure he keeps and makes weight for his division in Wrestling. “I am looking forward for wrestling this year,” said Rogers, “ it is my last season and year as a Redwing wrestler.” The upperclassman hopes to make it passed regionals and go to state, improve his record to a winning record and make it through the season without an injury.
The season hasn’t ended for Sophomore Tatum Spevacek, a two year Varsity dancer. Her fall season of Dance may be over but now it is the start for competition season of dance. The time where game faces come on and dance routines strive to perfection. Spevacek is excited for learning new dance moves and routines, however she went on to say that most of all she will miss dancing on the football field for our Redwing community. Spevacek is most enthusiastic to learning their new hip hop routine for the competitive season. She plans to focus all her attention on mastering her new routines in order to make sure they make it to state once again this year. “I can’t wait to compete. I can’t wait to dance, but most of all, I can’t wait to enjoy the season to spend time with my dance family,” said Spevacek. She is hopeful that this will be a great year, she later went on to say that the team has inspirational leaders and great seniors that will lead the team this season and make it great.
Though Football season is coming to an end, basketball is just around the corner. For our Senior Carter Amundsen, this will be his fourth and final season as a Redwing basketball player. Throughout the year, Amundsen has been attending morning open gyms every chance he can get. In addition, all off season he makes sure to workout especially throughout the summer. He is most looking forward to spending time with and building a great team. “I hope to beat North twice this year,” said Amundsen, “it will take hard work, but I’m confident that we can accomplish anything we set our goals to.”
As for others at South, some will have more time than others to wait and prepare for their next season. For Junior Adrianna Vargas, Cross Country season will be coming to an end and her next season won’t begin until after winter sports have finished. She will be involved in Girls’ Track and Field for her third year now. Until then, Vargas plans to engage in Runners Club, an organization for Track and Cross Country athletes to have in order to stay in season shape. The club will be held at least three days out of the week until the Spring sport is on its way. She will be running, doing workout routines and occasionally lifting weights in order to stay in physical shape for Track. When asking her what she is most looking forward to for this years track season she replied, “I am most looking forward to practicing with all my friends in track. I miss the running and the excitement I get when I finish a race. There is no other feeling like it.” Vargas hopes to improve her time and have fun with the season. She hopes for the best to all on the team and hopes they all participate in Runners Club during the Winter season.
Though the season of fall sports has now come to an end, our athletes will all remain hard at work to make sure they are prepared for the seasons to come. Whether it be joining clubs, lifting weights after school or attending open mats, our Redwings will push themselves to become the best they can be. We wish for the best for our Redwings upcoming seasons, in hopes that they play hard and give it their all. Story by Ashley Trevino
