Homecoming week is almost to an end but most sports are still in full speed. The girls varsity tennis team’s season came to an end on Monday at sub-sectionals with no one moving on to state but the week before that on October 2nd and 3rd the all conference tennis tournament was played in Green Bay. Number one doubles team, seniors Sara Schrank and Lauren Pfile, beat Green Bay West in the first round at the conference tournament and then fell to Green Bay Southwest and DePere . Schrank and Pfile moved on to the second day of the tournament and ended up in 8th place overall Seniors Samantha Roelse and Mimi Pulido, number two doubles, lost to Notre Dame in the first round, then beat Green Bay Preble and Green Bay East in the second and third rounds, finishing in 9th place. Seniors Jennifer Leonhardt and Emma Sharpe fell to Ashwaubenon and Preble but pulled out a win against Green Bay East for their last match to end up in 11th place in the conference tournament. For the number four singles, senior Alexandrea Stone won in the first round against Green Bay East and lost in the second and third rounds to Notre Dame and Sheboygan North. Stone continued on to the second day of the tournament and finished in 8th place. Sophomore Courtney Trescher, three singles, lost to Pulaski and Preble and then won against Ashwaubenon in her third match and ended up in 11th place. Sophomore Ari Vorpahl, who plays number two singles for South, played Manitowoc in the first round and lost but came back strong defeating both Ashwaubenon and DePere to end up in 9th place in the conference tournament. Last, but not least, senior Alisha Ziegler, number one singles player, fell to Bayport in the first round and Green Bay West in the second round. She finished in 11th place in the extremely competitive #1 flight by beating Ashwaubenon in two sets in her third round. Boys JV football fell to the ships on Monday but the Freshman team fought hard and sunk the ships to pull out a win for the redwings. Boys soccer played Green Bay west and defeated them 5-1. Junior Carson Bieber with a hat trick and Senior Pietro Scilipoti added one goal as well. The other goal is unaccounted for as it was ruled an own goal. It was the Seniors last conference game at home. Next the team will play Sheboygan North on Tuesday October 15th. Tonight the girls volleyball team traveled to Notre Dame to take on the Trojans. The Jv team fell to the Trojans in three games. The Varsity team clawed back at the Trojans but they just couldn’t eat them up fast enough. The team was defeated in three games with the scored being 25-8 25-9 25-12. The Redwings are going to fire up and be ready to take on the North High Raiders on October 15th. The boys and girls cross country team flew fast today at Depere High School for the FRCC East Divisional meet. The girls team placed 5th overall with Senior Karli Noll leading the redwings with a time of 16:30. The boys team was lead by Junior Zach Klokow with a time of 16:21 to finish in 7th place and following close behind was Senior Eric Fischer placing 9th with time of 16:22.
