Starting off the Sheboygan Theater Company’s 80th season was their recent production of “Steel Magnolias”. “Steel Magnolias”, written by Robert Harding, is a heartwarming show that showcases six extremely different southern belles, who all meet at a local beauty parlor to joke around, gossip, and help each other through all of the curveballs life throws their way. STC’s recent production, directed by Nicole Dominguez, showcased South High’s very own Mariya Grabow as Truvy. Truvy was the charismatic owner of the beauty salon. Michelle Jorgensen also shown as Shelby, a young diabetic woman who shows us all what it means to have true determination and courage. Ouiser, portrayed by Sue Kaiser, effectively provided comic relief for the show, perfectly portraying a grumpy old lady, who under it all actually had a soft side. The Stage Manager, Kirt Graves, provided an excellent set-up for the show. The set brought us all into the town of Chinquapin Parish. The attention to even the slightest detail made all the difference, and provided an excellent space for the actors to bring the story to life. This show was a true treat to watch and I am very excited to see what the STC will have to offer in the future. “Steel Magnolias” ran September 27-28 and October 2-5. STC’s next show will be the musical “The Christmas Schooner”, which will run December 6-14. Review by Alisha Ziegler
