What would you plan for a day off of school if you woke up and the headlines said “Sheboygan South High School is closed due to winter conditions”? Last year, we had no days cancelled due to snow nor cold weather, but the year before we had a record number of days off. This could possibly mean that we’re in for a couple days off this year. Most students such as Junior Hailey Oney said that if school were to get cancelled because of snow, “I’d spend my day sleeping and enjoying the warmth of my bed.” It’s very common for high school students to spend the day catching up on sleep with every chance they get. Freshman Helen Flynn, never rests when she has the opportunity to go out and have fun, she stated,“If school were cancelled because of snow, I’d go skiing and enjoy the snow!” Senior Camille Pannatier said, “I’d build a snowman with my little brothers and play games with them all day.” It’s rare that teenagers go out and build snowman but it is a treasurable activity to do with siblings and friends to spend time together. Similarly, if the school district was to close due to cold weather, many students plans would change concerning outdoor activities. To many students, school getting cancelled from school means that they aren’t actually allowed to go outside due to parent concerns. Sophomore Julian Tichy said, “I’d spend my day inside and laying in bed and maybe playing video games.” Lots of teenage boys spend days off of school sleeping and playing video games, whereas most girls spend it sleeping and spending time on social media. Senior Zachary Haag stated, “I would most likely spend the day inside and enjoy the time away from school, senioritis at its finest.” Many students are prepared for school to get cancelled finally, this week the temperature averaged at -4 degrees with a windchill of -20 degrees. In order for school to have gotten cancelled we would have had to have the temperature at -10 degrees or a windchill at -30 degrees or lower. Two years ago almost, we had temperatures so cold that with the wind chill, it was approximately -45 degrees. Students are waking up daily and hoping that they will see that school has been cancelled due to both snow and cold weather conditions since they have recently arose into the area.
