Going into a new semester of 2016 means the school year is halfway over already. With only two quarters of the school year left, students at South High School have many feelings and emotions going through their head while receiving a brand new flex mod schedule. Many students have just gotten settled into this new schedule and have already mastered memorizing it. Needless to say, it’s time for all the craziness of the new classes and schedules that we’ve all become accustomed to, to start all over again. Senior Isaias Ruiz says,” I am looking forward to being able to adjust my schedule during the new semester and making the semester work for me in the best ways possible.” There are things to look forward to during this time, new friends to meet along the way, new student arrangements in classes, brand new knowledge, and a clean slate for grades. For many students, this may feel like the first day of school all over again. Even with all the bright sides of a brand new semester, students are not slow to come up with negative reasons of going into the upcoming semester. “I’m not looking forward to entering the new semester only because my conflicts are very inconvenient and I have to get used to a whole new schedule.” explained Senior Carlee Maas. With flex mod, there isn’t one “first day of school” anymore, there’s five with the five separate schedules assigned to the five days of the week. This is the factor that throws students off the most. New teachers and new people in new classes tends to bring the adrenaline to an all time high. The new adjustments take some time to get used to, but it will get settled into in no time. Junior Samantha Berry states, “To me, a brand new semester means new opportunities to learn and achieve new goals for the remainder of the year.” Everybody has different opinions about starting something new. Most of the time it comes down to the grade level. The last semester of the school year 2015-16 means it’s also the last semester seniors will experience in their high school career. “Going into my last semester of high school is going to be emotional because I have been going to school with most people since elementry. It is also exciting because graduating is something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a child. I’m excited to take the next step in life!” exclaimed Senior Ligibett Diaz. Although, most seniors are excited and preparing for graduation, some are shocked that time is going by so fast, and they’re not too thrilled about that. Second semester for seniors only means time is finally coming to an end and it’s almost time to move on to bigger and better things. There are ups and downs of the start of a new semester but in the end change is not a bad thing. Story By: Brianna Heckert Photo By: LakeBreeze Publication staff
