South High continues to grow every year whether it be in the classroom or in the community. “Our school, staff, and students should be very proud of their accomplishments.” Principal Michael Trimberger expresses how excited he is about our grade for the school report card. This report card is broken down into four categories; Student Achievement, Student Growth, Closing Gaps, and Post Secondary Readiness. These are the priority areas of how we are graded as a school. There are also smaller areas like Mathematics achievement, ACT participation and performance along with some other sub sections. This year our school got a 70.8 which is two percent higher than last year which means we have met expectations. Trimberger was very excited to find out that once again we have the highest grade in the city of Sheboygan, along with being fourth in the conference out of Bayport, Pulaski, and De Pere. This is a huge accomplishment for our school and students. “It’s not necessarily the report card I care about it’s how much the students are learning and how prepared they are for their future.” Trimberger states. This is where the Redwing Way really comes into play with Respect, Pride, Leadership, Effort, and Commitment. “I think that the Redwing Way has definitely impacted our school. As this is my last year here, I have seen the changes that have been implemented. Walking around South this year I see so much school pride.” Senior Sophia Ly explained, how she is proud of the school and how the Redwing Way has created a better Redwing community. All of the rules in South High are based on the Redwing Way it teaches us how to behave like young adults as well as helping us prepare for our future after high school. Getting a better grade and making a better school can be a lot of hard work and commitment “We believe in doing what’s best for students not necessarily what’s easiest for our teachers” Kevin Heiling stated. All the work the school puts in to teach students skills for the future really adds extra work for teachers, with all the worksheets or papers they need to grade for their classes and then add homerooms into the mix with daily lessons it really puts a lot of pressure on the staff, but it’s all to better the students education. With all the hard work students have put in it can come with great rewards like the flex mod schedule for next year, we have earned the right to more freedom during the school day along with a more flexible schedule. This goes to show that hard work really is worth it in the end. Trimberger plans to continue raising the bar and improving the grade, with a great staff and with students willing to learn and following the Redwing Way we can really achieve anything as the South High community. We all should be very proud of our accomplishments and this is only the beginning. Story and photo by Willow Pfister
