A Word to 2019

Senior Rob Hamburg thinking over how he can make a change and what he can do to become the person he’s always wanted to be.

2019… Two Thousand Nineteen. Can you believe it? Just yesterday we were all watching Katy Perry perform at halftime for the Super Bowl or even watching Drake release the Hotline Bling music video in 2015. But now, now it’s 2019 and there are huge things coming.

From the new year sneaking up on us doesn’t give us a whole lot of time to take it in before many of us have to go back to school. Many of us see New Years as an ordinary day and just treat it as a regular day. But also, many of us see it as an opportunity to start over, start fresh, be the person you want to be.

Maybe you had some trouble in 2018 and you want to start fresh, maybe you had family or friend issues and just want to start over. It’s time to make that change. It’s time to be the person you always wanted to be, and just to be yourself.

But why wait? Why wait for a year to pass to become the person you always wanted to be. To be able to do things you always wanted to do. Just be better overall. There’s no need to wait… If you want to be the person, then become it now! Make those grey times blue and turn those bad memories into heartwarming better memories.

Can you remember who you were? Before the world told you who you should be. Let’s stop and think for just a minute. Did you want to be who you were in 2018? Or were you forced to be someone different to “fit in” or to “be like the others”? Did you want people to like you for you or did you want people to see you as someone different, someone who wasn’t you?

I guess the next question is why? Why fight and fight for someone who’s not you. Just to fit in? Just to be like others? No. Be different, be the person you were born to be. Step out of your comfort zone and be the person taking the different path than the others. In fact, why wait for a whole year just to become the person you always wanted to be. Don’t wait? Start now, start weeks ago, start months ago. There’s no reason why you need to wait for some silly “New Year’s Resolution” when you could’ve started months ago.

Have the courage to face the disappointment, to face the rejection, to go out and do the things you want to do. The effort that you give definitely determines the life that you will live. The majority of people are comfortable living an average life… the majority of people are comfortable in fact, used to living below average life. Why? The reason being is they feel that the effort it requires to advance to the next level is full of stress and strength. When the reality is this… It’s easy to get comfortable living at 2% of your capability. What I think we all need to do is to get comfortable being uncomfortable and explore endless possibilities. I need you to get fired up, I need you to get out of your comfort zone and face the competition. And right now, the only competition you have to face is yourself. And why? Because the old you had to die, in order for the new you to break through.

You don’t have time listening to doubters, haters, and non-believers. Because it’s your game, your play, your call, your life… So live it the way you want to live it. Not how people say you should live it. Live every moment of your life like it would be your last seconds on this planet. Not spending your last seconds listening to what others have to say. You understand that if you’re still breathing and still fighting that means you still have an opportunity to be achieving and receiving the rewards that come with positivity and success. The new you chose the opportunity to fight and stand up, and the old you decided to give up and let the new you take over.

Let me ask you again… Why wait for a resolution. Why not start now and be the person you always wanted to be. The only obstacle in your way is the doubt that you have in yourself. The only person you should want to be and love being is yourself.

Start 2019 off right, and make the change you always wanted to make. No excuses, no procrastination, no anything. Be different and be you.

Happy 2019.
