South High’s annual Feats ‘n Follies event is only a few days away! There are about twenty acts and many skits to look forward too. Before the event, senior students play against teachers in a game of basketball. The game is expected to happen again this year before the Feats & Follies event.

Past Feats & Follies acts consisted of international dances, singing performances, performances by South’s many organizations and more. Students who’ve attended the past Feats & Follies events have enjoyed the theme of the show, Hamrak, musical performances and the emcee skits.

This year’s show will display various performances ranging from solos, singing performances, piano performances, dance groups to performances by our music program. There’s plenty to be on the lookout for.

This year’s theme revolves around an Awards Show. Attend this Red Carpet Event in your awards show attire!

Members of the Feats & Follies committee have dedicated an enormous number of hours to this event. The committee has overlooked the entire auditions process alongside Feats & Follies adviser, Richard Mathews. Not only that, the members have met since the start of school in preparation for Feats & Follies to discuss the event’s theme, agenda, expectations and more. Senior Katie Banie says,

“The preparations can become overwhelming at times because of the intricate details that we try to incorporate into the show in order for it to be an enjoyable experience for the audience. It is something that we as a committee commit to completely in our free time and since we have limited numbers, we have to divide up the work between very few people. However, being a part of the group is so satisfying because it allows the school community to observe the exciting talents so many of South High’s own students have, that they wouldn’t get to otherwise expose.”

Along with Katie Banie, Senior Philip Pethan explains,

“It’s awesome! My favorite thing about F&F is the Friday night before the show when we spend all day into the night decorating for it. It’s stressful but when you walk in the next day for the actual show, it makes the hard work worth it.”

With students as members of the committee, an adviser is necessary. South High staff member and Feats & Follies adviser, Richard Mathews, believes he was left in good hands to which he was. Familiar but still new to the event, Mathews gives his all for an outstanding show. Rather than taking charge of the entire event, he has guided the students towards the correct direction when needed. Feats ‘n Follies is all student-run. With that, he very much looks forward to the event.

“I really look forward to all of [the] talents we have here at South. Feats and Follies is a place to show their talent. I also look forward to the ways in which the kids make fun of teachers,” states Feats ‘n Follies adviser Richard Mathews.

Members of the South High community are looking forward to the show as well. Most of the student body have stated that they look forward to the acts and the emcee skits the most. Sophomore Isabel Gosse admits,

I am looking forward to the entire thing, from the acts by performers to the skits by the MCs. I had a lot of fun last year and have been looking forward to this year’s ever since!”

To start off the spirit week of Feats & Follies is Meme Day Monday. Students are encouraged to dress appropriately for their favorite meme. Tuesday’s theme is Color War. Upperclassmen will wear black as underclassmen will wear red. Woke Up Like This Wednesday allows students to wear pajamas to school. Partner(s) In Crime, Dynamic Duo or Squad Goals will occur Thursday in which students will match with others. Fancy Friday will finish off the spirit week and lead to an award show the following day.
