Senior Jesus Rivera speaks with new Associate Principal Adam Engelbretson over the new Redwing Way changes. They have discussed his new role here at South as well. As the new school year approached there were many changes not only in the daily schedule here at South High, but also in the new faces that we have been seeing lately. We had multiple teachers and staff members retire, transfer schools, leaving openings for new hires. Teachers/Staff that retired include: Mr. Dan Ristow, Mr. Phil Ristow, Mrs. Betty Price, Mrs. Kathy Young, Mr. Kevin Telschow, Mrs. Rokiki, etc. Although it is sad to see these teachers go and move on in their careers, we have added plenty more teachers here to fill in the necessary gaps. Teachers just joining are excited to be working here as well as see what South High has to offer them. New Staff include: Megan Hablewitz (Language Arts), Erik Wagner (Social Studies), Kyle Tachick (Math), Adam Englebretson (Associate Principal), , Angela Geiszler (World Languages), Kristina Keyes (Language Arts), Kimberly Schuessler (Educational Assistant), Kris Schoenenberger-Gross (Psychologist) and Miranda Toutenhoofd (Occupational Therapist). Returning to South from other schools within the district or neighboring districts include: Jason Fortuna (Health), Karla Saeger (Business) and Kate Delong (Family and Consumer Ed). We found that the most common adjustments for the new staff include getting to know the new people as well as the school. In opposition most staff look forward to attending as many activities and events here as possible! For some, things have improved greatly and they have found comfort in calling Sheboygan South their new home. With that, students are also a very important part of the staff’s daily lives. Most having a connection with particular students and becoming mentors for the younger generation. New Associate Principal Mr. Adam Engelbretson stated, “The biggest adaption for me so far this year is trying to learn everyone’s name. I was at my previous school for four years and knew almost everyone, now I have to start all over. The seven period day is nice also. The day feels like it goes much faster than an eight period day.” It is clear that the new additions to the South High faculty are excited to be here and along with students, are learning as well.
