With South High School’s 2nd annual Block Party coming shortly. People are getting anxious for the upcoming events. The Block Party is being held at Fountain Park in the middle of Downtown Sheboygan on May 11th.
Wendy Pitlik-Phlen the teacher in charge of South High’s Interact Club states when asked if she is looking forward to the event, “Very much so, last year was our first year doing it so we learned a lot from doing so. We are looking forward to bringing it back even better this year.” We then posed the same question to Julius Spivery, the president of the Interact Club, he stated, “I am looking forward to the block party. This year’s interactive club has truly put a lot of work into this event and the club this year and I am excited for the whole community to come together one last time during my high school career.”
This event is a big deal for the Interact Club, and they have made a lot of preparations to fulfill the task. Kayla Wesaw, a general member of the Interact Club stated, “We have been contacting businesses and have been planning what activities and food we want to have.” Julius Spivery added to the table saying, “The stepping plans we are taking are very few. Since this is our second time hosting this we have all of our contacts down. We are just trying to build off of last year. We started prepping for this months in advance by making flyers, figuring out what entertainment we want, and how we can make it better for this year.”
Earlier this year the Interact Club held a haunted house that had an impressive turnout, so when asked the question of what turnout they are expecting for the block party, Wendy Pitlik said, “I think somewhere between 200 and 400 people coming and going throughout the day. There was a great turnout last year but it lasted all day so what we’re trying to do this year is bring it back to the people there at the same time so it’s more of a crowd event, not crowded.” The interactive president Julius Spivery stated, “I am hoping for a very successful turnout considering last year it was such a huge success and also the haunted house last year was very successful as well.”
When talking about what they have planned for the Block Party this year, Wendy Pitlik, said “I believe they’re going to the yard and lawn that they had in the past and ideally they like some high school musical entertainment stage.” And President Julius Spivery said, “Some things we have planned are a dunk tank, live music, carnival games, cornhole tournament, wing eating contest, cake walk, arts and crafts, raffles, and more!”
South High Interact is very excited to get the ball rolling on this event. Everyone is looking forward to the Block Party and what the Interact club has planned.
“I just want to give a high shout out to the executive board members of good standing and general members for always giving their all in every event we hosted.” -Julius Spivery (’24)
