A Fair-Filled Weekend
September 8, 2016
Held at the Plymouth Fair Grounds, the Sheboygan County Fair is a place of fun for all ages. When hungry at the fair, there is no shortage of food choices to choose from. From burrito bowls and gyros to just about deep fried anything, there is sure to be something that may or may not give you an unsettled stomach at the end of the day. Some take less of a risk and get something a bit more on the milder side. Freshman Brynn Bonin, a rookie to the fair, said,
“My favorite food was the ice cream because it kept me cool and was delicious!”
The word “cheese curd” has more than one meaning if you are from Wisconsin and at the fair they are none other than the deep fried cheese curds
Wisconsinites all know and love. Junior Kelly Kiefer says that they are her favorite food to eat at the fair because,
“The ones at the fair are the best ones to get.”
More fair food staples are the hand dipped corn dogs, fresh squeezed lemonade, corn on the cob dipped in a vat of melted butter, and deep fried Oreo cookies.
A night under the lights at a football game may sound like lots of fun but at the fair, the rides light up the sky with the bright color of purples, blues, and many more. Seniors Madisyn Riste and Megan Bergin flew high on the ride Air Maxx. This ride simultaneously swings and spins you at a height of 48 meters, first starting slow, then speeding up to swing all the way around 360 degrees. Another feature of the ride is that the seats the riders sit in spin as well. That was not the case for Bergin and Riste though.
“The first time we went on, the cart didn’t spin. I got really mad but wanted to go on again to see if it would go. We ended up sitting in the same cart and it again, didn’t spin. I was so upset,” said Bergin.
There were many other rides at the fair such as the classic Ferris Wheel, Merry-Go-Round, and the Rock Star, formerly known as the Ali Baba. Junior Lizeth Lara said her favorite ride is the Rock Star,
“I was way too scared to go on anything else [than that and] the Ferris Wheel.”
Though rides and food are the biggest hit at the fair among the under 21 generation, Sophomore Nancy Chang said her favorite part of the fair was spending time and laughing with her family. Spending time with family and friends is one way to make the county fair one to never forget.
