A typical comment heard numerous times in the hallways here at South High is ¨There’s nothing to do in Sheboygan¨. Whether it is because of the small town atmosphere or you and your friends can not find anything to do on the weekends, here is your solution! This Saturday, January 17th at 7:30, Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons are coming to the Stefanie H. Weill Center. This is a great opportunity to see a well known band right in the heart of downtown Sheboygan. Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons are an an American folk rock band started not far from here in Appleton, Wisconsin. Today the band consists of Cory Chisel and Adriel Harris but in the past has included various musicians. This is where the name ¨Wandering Sons¨ places a role, because of the fluid nature of the musicians that work with Chisel and Harris. According to the Bio found on corychisel.com, he grew up in the Iron Range town of Babbitt, Minnesota, and in Appleton, Wisconsin. As a preacher’s son he was sheltered from the traditional pop music which contributed to the band’s folk rock sound. “Mom played piano and organ, my dad did the preaching, the thing that my sister and I could add to the service was to sing”, said Chisel. This is where his career as a musician began and from there his love for music and songwriting grew. Their music reflects a diverse range of influences, including folk, blues, gospel, country, and rock. The Wandering Sons released their debut album, Again from The Beginning, on the independent Wish List label in 2004. The extended play (known as EP a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is usually too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP) Darken Your Door followed in 2005, and with the release of the album Little Bird in 2006. In 2008, Chisel signed with Black Seal Records he then released an EP for the label, Cabin Ghosts, a live recording produced by Tony Berg, and in 2009 he made his first full-length album for the label, Death Won’t Send a Letter. His most recent album, Old Believers was released in June 2012, and Chisel and his latest group of Wandering Sons set out on tour in support, including a string of dates opening for Norah Jones. In order to attend the concert students must purchase a Student Rush Ticket Voucher at a low cost of $10.00. Vouchers are available for purchase from, Monday January 12th, until Friday, January 16 in the Activities Office. If you miss your chance purchasing your ticket throughout the week Student Rush Tickets will be available at the Weill Center Ticket Office on Saturday, January 17th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The night of the performance, students will need to bring their voucher and student ID in order to gain admission to the performance.
