At the end of the year, we often say goodbye to more than the graduating Seniors, but also Faculty who have spent their career working for the Sheboygan Area School District. This year, we say goodbye to Mr. Tim Crowns and Mrs. Kathleen Miley, two individuals who have worked here for more than 55 years combined. Crowns spoke of his time at South fondly, “I loved it at South, I’ve been here for over 11+ as a teacher and 30 years of a coach. I’ve always been a South sider. As for retirement, it’s time to move on, I’ve got many things planned for the future. I’d love to go to Florida and get some golf. This is going to be bittersweet, I’m going to miss the students and the day-to-day interaction. But on the other hand I’m getting more time to do what I love, which is golf and taking care of my dogs!” Crowns has seen it all in the district, he has taught at every elementary school and middle school in town. Before he came to South he was at Urban most recently. The presence of Crowns is irreplaceable, he is seen seen in the hallways daily with a big smile and always giving high fives to students. Alumnus Dylan Callahan stated, “Crowns was my favorite teacher because he always welcomed me with a big smile and asked how my day was going everyday. Whenever I saw Mr. Crowns, I knew he was in a good mood because of his smile.” Crowns’ impact on students and other teachers is irreplaceable and he definitely is a once-in-a-lifetime teacher. Whether it’s a stop in the hall to ask about your day or walking with you to your next class, Crowns always has an open ear. Mr. Peter Toutenhoofd described working with him daily, “He told me his favorite part of being a teacher was the high fives and encouragement he gave in the halls and in class. More so than being a teacher, he enjoyed being that adult in some people’s lives and that’s what got him through his 25 plus years. He’s that spark when you’re done and the jokes you need at times, he always that guy. That is the kind of relationship we built over our times together. Crowns always had a good pulse on what was happening for people because of the relationships he built.” As for Miley, she has been at South for over 25 years and has had five different principals in her time here. Mrs. Kathleen Miley isn’t seen by students on a day to day basis, but she has one of the most important job in the school. She has had the responsibility of taking calls for Mr. Trimberger and letting him know his schedule for the day. “I started at South in 1989. Back then we did attendance with scantrons, grading was on scantrons, and transcripts were written by hand. It’s been very cool to see the change in times and see how much South has improved over the years. My retirement plans will include projects around the house, such as gardening. I am looking forward to getting to the things that I haven’t had time to do since i work 12 months a year. I’m ready to miss the work but not ready to miss the people.” The person who will be replacing Miley is Mrs. Billie Jo Weier who stated, “I’ve worked with Kathy for 17 years, and she is one of the most professional and organized secretaries I know. I will miss her greatly, and wish her the best in her retirement.” These two will be very missed and their placements will have some very big shoes to fill.
