With summer quickly approaching, warm weather is starting to become more and more common (of course in mid-April, because go Wisconsin!). Sheboygan is full of fun attractions to keep yourself outdoors, explore the city, and stay cool when it’s nice out, and some of them might even be a sweet treat. Today at 2 pm marked the 6th season of South Pier Parlor being up and running. The locally owned ice cream parlor is known for it’s delicious ice cream that can be enjoyed in its 1920s atmosphere, or even out on the pier. They also have many other delicacies, such as floats, sodas, sundaes, homemade fudge, ice cream sandwiches, and even candy; a satisfaction for any sweet tooth! Along with local Sheboygan residents being more than excited and hungry for SPP’s season opener, employees might be a little more excited than all of us. I’m most looking forward to working with all my friends again,” says Senior Jordan Lohse, “and eating A LOT of ice cream!”

In fact, such enthusiasm by the ice cream shop’s employees has started to rub off on local teens searching for a fun, well-paying job. Who wouldn’t want to work at a shop full of treats?  Junior Natalie Binversie states why she wants to apply, and what she looks forward to. “My parents are friends with the owners, and it’s a place I enjoy going to. I’m excited to work with some of my friends and be able to make some more money!” Along with South Pier Parlor opening, another popular attraction on the Sheboygan-famous pier is opening early next month. Harbor Pointe Mini Golf Course is scheduled to open the first weekend of May, if the Wisconsin weather cooperates. The outdoor course consists of 18 fun holes next to the river, a nice sun tan, and plenty of snacks and slushies. Junior Zoe Schrameyer explains what she loves most about her summer job. “I love being on the pier in general so having a job out there is fun, especially because I’m outside. I think the best thing about my job is hearing people laugh when playing with their friends. You know they are having a good time and you are a part of that.” Another Harbor Pointe employee expresses why he loves mini golf season, and how many hours he works earn money for college. “I love everything about it to be honest,” explains Senior Carston Jonet. “I get to sit back and relax all day; I usually throw on a movie or two during my shift. I also get to interact with customers which is something I’m really good at and enjoy doing. Last year I can on  to fill in for the college kids that left, so I got about 20 hours a week, but this year we only have 3 people and I need to save money for college, so I’m probably going to get 35-40 hours a week.” So if you’re starting to feel like you need to cool off, or maybe you have a sweet tooth that you need to satisfy, stop at South Pier Parlor to take a load off and enjoy a tasty treat. And why you’re at it, stop at Harbor Pointe to play a couple rounds of mini golf when the weather gets warm. I guarantee you that you will not be less than satisfied, and the ice cream will be a hole in one.    Photo submitted by Madisyn Riste
